Fit safe floor mats and inspect interior trim

Small interior upgrades still need a clear pedal area and secure fixing.

Clear the footwell

Park safely, apply the handbrake, switch the engine off and remove loose items from the driver’s footwell. Never stack a new mat over an old one or cover the accelerator, brake or clutch travel area.

Match the fixing and shape

Use a mat specifically compatible with the actual floor and retention system. Compare the shape with the original and check all fixing points. Do not use a mat that slides, curls or depends on a makeshift fastening near the pedals.

Fit and verify while parked

Fit the mat to the maker’s instructions with its intended retainers. With the engine off, check that every pedal travels freely without catching the mat, and check the mat cannot move into the pedal area. Remove it if there is any interference; do not test a loose mat on the road.

Keep trim work simple

Replace only accessible non-structural trim using matched clips and the correct trim tool. Do not disturb seat mounts, seat-belt fixings, wiring, sharp rust or safety equipment. Fragile old trim and hidden fasteners are good reasons to ask a specialist rather than force a panel.

General owner-care guidance. Follow the instructions for your actual assembly and replacement part. Stop if the fitting, condition or required specification is uncertain. Use a qualified mechanic for safety-critical systems or uncertain fitment.
