Workshop checklist
Brake, steering and suspension: prepare for a workshop
Recognise warning signs and order the right kit after a qualified inspection.
Treat symptoms seriously
A soft or sinking brake pedal, reduced braking, pulling, grinding, steering play or loose-feeling suspension needs prompt professional assessment. Do not keep road-testing a car with unsafe braking or steering. Arrange recovery if it cannot be moved safely.
Record useful details
Describe when the symptom occurs and any recent work. Photograph visible part markings only from a safe position. Do not dismantle hydraulic, steering or suspension components, work beneath an unsupported vehicle, or attempt adjustments from a generic online guide.
Order from an inspection list
Ask the workshop to identify the installed assembly and give you a written part/kit reference, dimensions and required paired items, seals and fasteners. Request the actual condition and provenance of used parts. A low price does not establish safe remaining service life.
Verify completed work
Have the workshop fit parts using the applicable specifications, carry out necessary bleeding, alignment or calibration, and perform safe function checks. Keep the invoice and a record of parts fitted. This preparation guide deliberately does not supply guessed torque values, hydraulic procedures or roadworthiness certification.
